Just an Update
I just wanted to let our readers know that WE'RE STILL HERE!!! We are just very sad... As of today 08/26/08 12:17 AUY (Yamana Gold Inc.) is valued at $10:85. I really hope that it's value goes up!!!!!

You are HERE...
We visited the Yamana Gold website http://www.yamana.com/ and browsed the Company, Operations and then the Investor tabs. We found this a great place to start our journey. We needed to mark our spot. You are here! In true map fashion, we thought it would be fun to be able to identify on a map the major exploration and operational drilling sites. After all this is a mining company, what they do and where they do it matters to us new shareholders.
Today, we focussed on the South American countries. At first, we went with www.google.com/maps. Did, you know that you can pull satellite images as well as topographical photos? So far, so cool. But it wasn't really rich enough in terms of educational content. Oyster and I decided that we should abandon that idea and just google some of the geology terms. And eureka! I just love our teamwork!
We entered our first Yamana term, "GEO". It is used throughout the Press Releases and always in conjunction with production. That may be key. Fundamentals baby! We first need to know what it is...or as one investing guru Peter Lynch described as "investing in what you know". We don't know mining, but with the internet digging is easy. We unearthed the GEO Metro...remember that Chevrolet with the Suzuki engine introduced in 1984? We brought up "Global Environmental Outlook" and "Group on Earth Observations", sounds good but not what we are looking for here. But on the way, we found http://www.nationalgeographic.com/.
What an amazing site! Couldn't resist exploring the territory. Hey, if you have some time you can take the GEO Bee Challenge or check out National Geographic's Atlas Explorer. National Geographic Magazine (NGM) even has a featured "map of the day". Imagine in one year, you can elevate your geography IQ. There is hope for those of us who missed the big '80's geography kick that Uncle Sam pushed through the Department of Education http://www.ed.gov/index.
I didn't realize that I could really be fascinated by reading about land and its relationship to other land! I went ahead and made these cool sites my research favorites. Another fun detour.
We found another specialty dictionary called http://www.yourdictionary.com/ and then there is http://www.onelook.com/ both helpful for looking up industry terms like, "GEO" or "gold equivalent ounces", "azimuth", "mineralization", "ore body" and "leach pads". That is not to say that the standard Merriam-Websters http://www.merriam-webster.com/ won't get you there, but now you have sources when you play your next high stakes round of Geography Scrabble Throw-Down. Did you have any idea how rich your resources really are? And the social bonus to making informed investing decisions is being able to join in on the buzz. Imagine sitting at your local In-N-Out Burger with your twelve year old eating a double double, in his case vegi style, discussing the latest exploration update in Chile and Argentina and whether the production output is on track for 2008. Or in our case, sitting at home at our dining table staring at my scrabble tray and wondering whether or not my new favorite seven letter word "azimuth" is challenge worthy. Hey fifty bonus points! Doubters can go to http://www.morewords.com/.
